Some Thoughts On Prophetic Ministry

At this writing in February 2021, I am about a month away from my 59th birthday and starting my 42nd year in ministry. I have been operating in what Rev. Kenneth E. (Dad) Hagin used to call “The Simple Gift Of Prophecy” (The Manifestation Gift of Prophecy - Gift of the Holy Spirit) since I was first Baptized with the Holy Spirit as a Freshman in High School at 15 years of age in 1977. I also functioned in the Ministry Gift (Ascension Gift or 5-Fold Ministry Gift) of Prophet for 16 years, from 2000-2016, when I was commissioned, Apostle.

Let me just be clear, I love the Prophetic. This writing is not meant to bash the “Prophetic” in any way, but hopefully to bring some balance to it. We do find ourselves in our current state in Ekklesia where we do need some balance brought to it. New Testament Believers were never meant to be guided and directed by “Prophetic Words” to the point that they chase down every Prophet, or Prophetically Gifted person to “Get A Word”!

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”

Romans 8:14 NKJV

The original Greek meaning of the word “sons” is this text carries the thought of a “Mature Son” as opposed to an “Immature Son”. Mike Translation: ‘Mature Sons’ are led by the Holy Spirit, ‘Immature Sons’ chase down the Prophet for a word.

I have come to the stage in my life where I have developed a relationship with Holy Spirit for myself and do not go around seeking “words”. “The Spirit Himself bears witness with my spirit.” (Romans 8:16) Sometimes there are things rolling around in my spirit, things that I have an inkling of, but maybe are not yet fully defined. Many of us are like that. We know in God’s timing, He will add clarity and definition to what we are sensing. But that is no reason to go seeking a “word”, it is just part of our process.

Here is a case in point. Two nights ago, a Seasoned Apostle that I happen to be very good friends with, hosted a Facebook Live broadcast with two up-and-coming Prophets, who I also know. I did not know what the broadcast was going to be about before tuning in. I actually tuned in to support all three of my friends. I did not tune in to receive a “Word”, but yet I received three, one from each of them.

None of the three “words” that I received were really “New Revelation” to me, but each brought confirmation and clarity to things that were already rolling around in my own spirit. This is a CORRECT OPERATION of New Testament Prophetic Ministry. My Friends, I long to see New Testament Believers operate as “Mature Sons” don’t you?
